Forum Subsea Rentals to rent Aquatec’s
LEAKlog
Forum Subsea Rentals, a subsidiary of Forum Energy
Technologies, Inc., and Aquatec Group Ltd. are pleased to
announce the signing of a global agreement for the rental of
Aquatec’s proven LEAKlog
TM
leak detection and inspection
suite.
The Aquatec LEAKlog leak detection sensors are utilised for
routine inspection and surveillance of a variety of subsea
installations as well as for permanent leak monitoring
applications. The suite incorporates a data acquisition system
and interchangeable sensors.
Aquatec Group has been manufacturing innovative
instruments for measuring, monitoring and communicating in
water since 1990, and offer a proven range of subsea leak
detection sensors, including long range fluorometers,
directional acoustic sensor and differential temperature
detectors. This full equipment range will be available through
Forum Subsea Rental’s global locations supported by their
experienced technical teams coupled with the expertise of the
Aquatec’s engineering group.
Nicki Nicholls, Global Business Director, Forum Subsea
Rentals said: “This agreement gives FSR direct access to
Aquatec’s technology-leading LEAKlog range of products and
development team so we can offer not only the off the shelf
packages, but also provide our customers bespoke
instrumentation solutions. We look forward to be working
closely with Aquatec, where the addition of this technology to
our extensive range of rental assets gives our customers a cost-
effective and reliable leak detecting option for completing
their inspection campaigns.”
The Managing Director of Aquatec Group, Andy Smerdon
commented: “Aquatec has been designing and providing subsea
leak detection systems for over 15 years, and Forum’s team has
considerable experience in mobilising and deploying these
sensors. We welcome this opportunity to work closely with
them to provide first class service and informed technical
support directly to the users of our instrumentation.”
ROV support provided by Geo Oceans
Geo Oceans has successfully completed a contract providing six
weeks of continuous 24 hr/d ROV support for subsea pipeline
decommissioning operations for Vale in New Caledonia.
The project involved operating ROVs from a construction
barge providing day and night ROV visual guidance for crane
operators to remove 3.6 km of subsea pipeline in 40 - 60 m of
water.
The ROV teams also provided visual guidance and
touchdown monitoring for an additional scope to lay
approximately 300 concrete stabilisation blocks on an existing
pipeline.
Geo Oceans had two ROV teams in the field managing
and operating the Seabotix vLBV ROVs around the clock. The
campaign was executed successfully within budget and on
time.
Ramboll assesses integrity of ZADCO subsea
pipelines
The international engineering and design consultancy Ramboll
Oil & Gas has been awarded an important contract by Zakum
Development Company (ZADCO), Abu Dhabi.
The project, which entails an integrity study of 15 subsea
pipelines, will enable ZADCO to plan maintenance and
potential replacement of equipment and thereby extend the
remnant life of its existing pipelines.
The 15 pipelines are part of an oil pipeline network in
ZAKUM field offshore UAE, which is one of the largest offshore
oilfield in the world. Production on the ZAKUM field started in
1983 and the project is performed in order to extend the design
and service life of selected pipelines in the field by an
additional 20 years.
The scope of work includes review of available pipeline
data, assessment of current and future pipeline integrity as well
as calculation and prediction of corrosion growth rate.
Ramboll will perform the Remnant Life Assessment (RLA)
on the 15 subsea pipelines and assess their condition for future
operations and life extension.
“ZADCO is an important client for Ramboll and we have
been working closely with ZADCO for several years. With this
contract, we hope to bring our collaboration to the next level
and further showcase our expertise within the field of lifetime
extension,” says Director, Abu Dhabi Branch, Ramboll Oil & Gas
Middle East, Jesper Thomsen.
According to Thomsen, the current market conditions
foster a focus on extending the lifetime of existing equipment
and assets. He continues: “This project falls very much in line
with our strategy to pursue asset integrity specialist services,
starting with jackets and pipelines, where we have some very
capable resources.”
The study will be finalised early 2016.

Nord Stream II tenders cancelled
Gazprom has cancelled several tenders for construction of
over 400 km of a gas trunk pipeline needed for the planned
Nord Stream II project, according to documents posted on a
government procurement website.
Nord Stream II, led by Gazprom, aims to increase Russian
natural gas exports to Europe by doubling the amount of gas
Russia sends to Germany under the Baltic Sea.
The expansion project has met with criticism from some
European Union member states, who oppose the bypassing of
Ukraine and other Baltic nations.
Reports say that Gazprom cancelled one tender for building
a section of the Ukhta-Torzhok 2 trunk pipeline on 30 December
2015 and cancelled three more on 11 January 2016.
In November, a source at a pipe supplier to Gazprom told
Reuters the Nord Stream II pipeline consortium had delayed the
results of a pipe tender due to changes in the shareholding
structure of the consortium.
Ukhta-Torzhok 2 is designed to be around 970 km long when
completed and will feed the Nord Stream pipeline system.
