governments and organisations to fasten the
implementation of LNG as a fuel and cargo for trucks
and ships.
Also located at the port is an LNG emergency
response training facility, at Falck Risc. Here,
stakeholders that work with LNG, such as emergency
response teams, are offered in-depth practical training
on the specific characteristics of LNG.
LNG Masterplan
Over the past three years, the Port of Rotterdam has
successfully participated in the LNG Masterplan
project. The programme aimed to create a platform
for the cooperation of authorities and industry
stakeholders to facilitate the creation of a harmonised
European regulatory framework for LNG as fuel and
cargo in inland navigation. It also promoted the
introduction of LNG as a fuel and cargo for inland
shipping, delivering various overviews of the latest
information available on LNG.
However, the implementation of LNG does not stop
with the end of the LNG Masterplan, and new projects
are already underway: Shell is working on a bunker ship,
to be operated in the Port of Rotterdam, and the 100%
LNG-powered
Econliner
, operated by Damen, is
expected to be ready in 2016. Together with the
Greenstream
and
Green Rhine
run by Shell, the
Argonon
by Deen, the
Sirocco
by Chemgas, and the
Eiger-Norwand
by Danser, it will be a frequent guest at
the Port of Rotterdam.
