Cunningham Energy plans new horizontal oil wells
Cunningham Energy has announced plans for two new shallow horizontal oil wells to
be drilled in Kanawha County, West Virginia. The newly planned horizontal programme
will be drilled from the ‘Matterhorn’ pad, consisting of two initial wells surveyed with
a specified measured depth (MD) ranging from 6100 - 6800+ ft and vertical depths of
2150+ ft.
Both ‘Matterhorn’ horizontal wells are targeting oil in the Weir Sand formation.
Cunningham Energy also plans to utilise one of the company’s three Speedstar 185 top
drive drilling rigs in conjunction with these new wells. Each wellbore on the Matterhorn
pad has been planned to be completed with multiple frack stages with varying spacing
dependent on future wireline data.
“Cunningham Energy is looking forward to developing this promising new shallow
horizontal oil and gas play in West Virginia,” said Ryan Cunningham. “Prior in house drilling
data has shown strong oil production potential and experts feel that the potential of these
shallow horizons is in the infancy of the game.
“The Weir Sand has shown exciting vertical logs in this area and it holds tremendous
potential horizontally. Economic conditions in our industry point to lower cost production
being the new normal and the Weir Sand horizontal can possibly fit into that slot.
“The company sees possible lifting costs of this new play to be advantageously low
during the first years of production.” Cunningham Energy is currently completing the
Lions Paw 4-Well Horizontal Programme in Clay County, West Virginia. The company
anticipates spudding the first Matterhorn well by Spring of 2016.
Rawicz-15 well reaches
total depth
San Leon Energy has announced
that the Rawicz-15 well has been
successfully drilled to a total depth
of 1580 m MDBRT (measured depth
below rotary table), and a completion
has been run in preparation for well
testing. The rig is currently being
demobilised. The reservoir to be tested
is of a thickness consistent with the
prognosis although the reservoir is
interpreted as being of slightly better
quality than in Rawicz-12.
The Rawicz-15 development well
on the 742 km
2
Rawicz Concession in
Poland’s southern Permian Basin, was
spudded on 18 November 2015 using
a rig from Poland’s Exalo Drilling. The
well, which is operated and funded
by Palomar Natural Resources (PNR),
will now undergo a full well testing
programme which is expected to
commence in around two weeks’
time.
Drilling commences on the
Bambazon exploration well
Lundin Petroleum AB has announced
that its wholly owned subsidiary
Lundin Malaysia BV has commenced
drilling of the Bambazon exploration
well in Block SB307/SB308, offshore
East Malaysia.
The Bambazon prospect is in shallow
water and lies to the north of a major
producing field in offshore East Malaysia.
The well will target hydrocarbons in
Miocene aged sands.
Bambazon will be drilled with the
West Prospero jack-up rig to a total depth
of approximately 1250 m below mean sea
level. The drilling of the well is expected to
take approximately 25 days.
Lundin Malaysia holds 85% working
interest in SB307/SB308. Partner is
PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd with a 15%
working interest. Lundin Malaysia operates
six blocks in Malaysia, namely PM307,
PM319, PM308A, PM328, SB307/308 and
SB303.
Prosafe and Statoil to
rephase Mariner project
Prosafe and Statoil have agreed to
re-phase the Mariner project in the
UK Continental Shelf of the North Sea from
2016 into 2017, and extend the firm hire
duration from eight months to 13 months.
Operations at the Statoil Mariner
platform will commence within
Q3 2017 and will be performed by
either the Safe Zephyrus or Safe Boreas
accommodation support vessel. In
addition to the revised extended firm hire
duration, Prosafe has granted Statoil six
additional one-month options linked to the
Mariner project.
Total value of the re-phased and
extended firm hire duration for the
Mariner project has increased from
US$76.3 million to approximately
US$131.8 million, including a re-phasing
charge payable in 2016.
Kvalross well begins
drilling
Faroe Petroleum has announced the
commencement of the Kvalross exploration
well 7224/2-1 (Faroe 40%).
Licence PL611, which contains the
Kvalross prospect, is located in the
Norwegian Barents Sea to the south of
OMV’s significant Wisting and Hanssen
oil discoveries. The well will test two
independent targets, namely: the
Kvalross prospect with significant oil
and gas resource potential within Lower
Triassic Klappmyss Formation clinoform
reservoir; and the Kvaltann prospect
which has additional oil potential within a
Mid-Late Triassic Snadd Formation channel.
Licence PL611 was awarded to
Faroe in May 2011 in the Norwegian 21
st
Licensing Round together with co-venturers
Wintershall Norge AS (40% and operator)
and Petoro AS (20%). The Kvalross well is
being drilled using the Transocean Arctic
drilling rig and the results will be announced
when drilling operations are complete.”
