New global certification
framework from LR
Lloyd’s Register has launched its
global-based additive manufacturing
(AM) guidance notes to industry,
giving operators and manufacturers
in the energy and marine industries
confidence in metallic equipment and
components produced using AM.
AM is being called the ‘next
industrial revolution’ in the
manufacturing mix. The introduction
of Lloyd’s Register’s certification
guidelines for metallic AM parts
represents a move by the leading
integrity, compliance and specialist
risk consulting services group, together
with engineering research and
technology firm TWI, to help industry
harness the technology.
Chris Chung, head of strategic
research at Lloyd’s Register Energy,
says: “Our new certification guidelines
are already being used by companies in
this joint industry.

Valeura reports natural gas discovery in its Banarli
exploration well
Valeura has confirmed a natural gas discovery in its first exploration well Bati Gurgen-1 on
its 100% owned and operated Banarli licences in the Thrace Basin of Turkey, which flowed
at an initial restricted rate of 3.4 million ft
3
/d on a 24 hour production test.
The corporation has also advised that preliminary Q4 2015 net petroleum and natural
gas sales in Turkey averaged 806 boe/d, which was in line with annual guidance and
included 4.8 million ft
3
of natural gas at an average price realisation of approximately
US$9.90 per thousand ft
3
and 7.0 bpd of oil and condensate.
The corporation drilled its first two exploration wells on the 100% owned and
operated Banarli licences in November and December 2015, with encouraging results.
Since that time, completion and testing of the first well Bati Gurgen-1 and construction
of tie-in facilities have been underway targeting first gas at the end of January 2016.
The Batu Gurgen-1 exploration well (Valeura 100% working interest) was drilled to
a measured depth of 2735 m into the top of the Teslimkoy member of the Mezardere
formation and was cased to a measured depth of 2729 m. Log analysis indicated 32 m of
aggregate net gas pay at an average porosity of 19.6% in. multiple stacked sands in the
Danismen and Osmancik formations. The well also penetrated several over-pressured,
thinner and tighter sands in the Mezardere formation.
UK gas production first:
first raise in 15 years
According to Reuters, despite oil prices
trading at a seven year low, UK oil and
gas output rose last year for the first
time since 2000, reversing a declining
trend in production.
Oil & Gas UK, the industry group
representing key North Sea oil producers
such as BP, Shell and ExxonMobil
believes there has been a 7 - 8% increase
in production as opposed to the 3 - 4%
increase it predicted in September.
Britain’s oil and gas output has more
than halved during the past 15 years
due to resources becoming increasingly
difficult to reach and there being a lack
of investment in new areas.
However, a renewed push for
exploration projects encompassing new
areas of the North Sea has led to a surge
in new fields during 2015, including
Taqa’s Cladhan oilfield in resource-rich
waters near the Shetland Island, and
boosted output year on year.
